Obituary for George Jarmon

George Jarmon, Jr., 86, of Abilene, Texas, passed December 24, 2018.
George was born to George Jarmon Sr. and Willie Mae Hargrove-Jarmon, August 4, 1932, in Columbus, Texas. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1950. George was very athletic which earned him a track scholarship to Prairie View A&M University. He then was drafted into The United States Army. George was a Korean War Combat Veteran where he served with the 2nd Infantry Division Field Artillery Battalion as a Cannoneer. He also was a member of the Presidential Honor Guard. During his military tenured he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Ruby Faye Ghant in 1959 and they lived together in Abilene. Together they raised a lot of children (nephews, nieces, cousins, etc). He was affectionately known as Uncle George, Paw Paw, Chicken Man, Boo, Rascal, and Youngsta. George was a truck driver until he retired in 2011 and was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people. George was a member of King Solomon Baptist Church where he served on the Sr. Usher board. He leaves as his legacy, Son: Thomas Ghant (Luciana) of Hutto, Tx. Daughter: Jocelyn Jackson (James) of Dallas, TX. Grandchildren: Alexander Ghant and Essence Ghant of Hutto, TX, Corvin Ghant and Gabriel Pierson of Abilene, TX. He also leaves to cherish his memory his Sister-in-Laws, Exia Ghant-Walker of Abilene, TX., Stella Hughes (Albert) of Demopolis, AL. Brother-in-Law: George Ghant, Jr. of Abilene, TX. Exia was with him to the end. Everyone remembered him as an extreme lover of sports. Whether it was football, basketball, baseball, etc. As he would always call it "the ball game". He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 yrs Ruby. His parents George Sr. and Willie Mae. Son: Michael Thomas. Granddaughter Asia Renee Ghant.
The family would also like to give a special thank you to Exia Ghant-Walker, Cassandra Phillips, Yolanda Bell and Sandra Ghant-Carson for the extra care they provided to George.
Reverend Houston McLendon of King Solomon Baptist Church will officiate.
