Don Edwin Bennett
Clyde, TX

Don Edwin Bennett, 80, of Clyde went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 25, 2020, after a brave battle with Parkinson's disease.
Don was born on November 21, 1939 in Anson, Texas to Onis Douglas and Mary Faye Bennett at the home of his maternal grandparents Headley and Mary (Biggs) Martin. He attended Anson public schools before joining the United States Navy in Dallas, Texas on November 21, 1956. Don served his country as a machinist aboard both the USS Thomas F. Nickel (DE-587) and the USS Isherwood (DD-520) and in the naval reserves. He received his honorable discharge on October 19, 1960 at the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (E-5).
Throughout his career, Don worked as a machinist with Automation and Lockheed Martin in Abilene, Texas and as an oil field truck driver/owner in the West Texas area. He retired in 2014 from RAM Inc. in Cisco, Texas.
Don enjoyed restoring vintage farm tractors, making homemade hand cranked peach ice cream, grilling hamburgers, attending family and high school reunions and participating in Wednesday night bible study classes.
Don served as an Elder for Southside Baptist Church in Clyde, Texas.
Don married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Martin, on November 4, 1960 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Anson, Texas.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Onis and Mary Faye Bennett.
Those who remain to cherish his memory and all the good times is his wife Carolyn Sue Bennett of Clyde, Texas, and his children Onis Bradford Bennett of Clyde, Texas and Jennii Faye Kamesch and husband Joseph Edward of Sanger, Texas; his granddaughters Betty Lou Kamesch of Yukon, Oklahoma and Olivia Ingrid Kamesch of Sanger, Texas; his siblings, Mary Ann McFadden and husband Arvil of Haskell, Texas, Douglas Bennett and wife Mary of Hawley, Texas and Lynn Bennett and wife Jeanene of Anson, Texas; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 N. 12th Street, Abilene, Texas 79603. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Louis Brewer from Southside Baptist Church officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at New Hope Cemetery in Stamford, Texas.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the KinderHearts team members for the home hospice care provided.
